IEEE and ACM copyright policy

Here is an interesting blog post about the copyright policies of ACM, IEEE and other big publishers.

I agree with the author of the blog post about the fact that these big associations have restrictive copyright policies and that this is a problem. Every author should be able to post their articles on their website without having to worry about copyright policies.

Beside that, several conferences charge very high registration fees. For example, KDD this year cost up to 790 $ for non members. I guess that some part of this money go to the publishers like Springer, ACM etc. that earn a lot of money from this. Also, probably that many conferences earn profits, because really I don't understand how come a conference can cost up to 800 $ / person...

What do you think of this?
