A good introduction to association rule mining and frequent itemset mining
Date: October 10, 2011 07:34PM

Hello everyone,

I have read a good introductory data mining book lately.

It is "Introduction to data mining" (2006) by Tan, Steinbach & Kumar ( http://www-users.cs.umn.edu/~kumar/dmbook/ ).

This book is pretty easy to understand. It does not cover a wide range of topic unlike the book of Han & Kamber. But it provides a very good introduction to association rule mining, frequent pattern mining and clustering.

The good thing is that you can download the first chapter about association rule mining for free:

http://www-users.cs.umn.edu/~kumar/dmbook/ch6.pdf

This chapter explains Apriori, FPGrowth, discuss the complexity of these problems, how to generate association rules from frequent itemsets and also talks about the different interestingness measures like the support and confidence.

For anyone interested in association rules or frequent itemsets, I think that it is a good chapter to read.
