A great post about the future of data mining (old : 1997, but I believe that it is still relevant):

Another great article entitled "Is automated data mining an emerging paradigm that can supersede hypothesis testing? "

Hello

I have read a lot of papers from data mining recently and I see a lot of papers related to graph mining and also bioinformatics. In particular, one hot application is social networks. There has been quite many works about this recently.

I think that the future of artificial intelligence in general is in robots! The Japanese people know this very well. They have already created some humanoid like robots that can do many tasks. I believe that in 30 years, many of us will have at least one robot at home, a little bit like the movie "I robot".

For data mining, I think that the future is in big industries. I think that marketing will always remain the top reason to do data mining. With smartphones, there is more an more data to perform data mining. I don't know if you have heard about the latest iphone issue with location recording. There is a lot of potential for doing data mining on this.
