Hi,
Welcome to the forum!
Yes, genetic algorithms can be used to perform or to help perform data mining tasks. I have searched a few papers for you. and here are some examples:
A genetic algorithm for mining association rules in a database: Genetic algorithm-based strategy for identifying association rules without specifying actual minimum support
X Yan, C Zhang, S Zhang - Expert Systems with Applications, 2009 - Elsevier
In clustering: Incremental clustering in data mining using genetic algorithm, http://www.ijcte.org/papers/161-G262.pdf
For classification: An incremental genetic algorithm for classification and sensitivity analysis of its parameters
G Bakırlı, D Birant, A Kut - Expert Systems with Applications, 2011 - Elsevier
for mining rules : A multi-objective genetic algorithm approach to rule mining for affective product design
KY Fung, CK Kwong, KWM Siu, KM Yu - Expert Systems with Applications, 2012 - Elsevier
for mining frequent itemsets Mining Frequent Itemsets Using Genetic Algorithm
S Ghosh, S Biswas, D Sarkar, PP Sarkar - arXiv preprint arXiv:1011.0328, 2010 - arxiv.or http://arxiv.org/pdf/1011.0328
another one for clustering : [PDF] Genetic k-means clustering algorithm for mixed numeric and categorical data sets
DK Roy, LK Sharma - International Journal of Artificial Intelligence & …, 2010 - airccse.org http://airccse.org/journal/ijaia/papers/0410ijaia3.pdf
Fraud detection: A comprehensive survey of data mining-based fraud detection research, http://arxiv.org/pdf/1009.6119&embedded=true&embedded=true
Hope this helps!
