Data mining in court: latest news

Hello guys,

Today, I've been reading this about data mining in the news.

http://articles.latimes.com/2011/apr/26/news/la-heb-supreme-court-data-20110426

In Vermont in the USA, doctors have been selling the prescription information to big pharmaceutical companies. The case is now in the Supreme Court. One side argue that it needs the data for marketing (data mining) purposes while the other says that it violates the doctor-patient confidentiality agreement.

According to the news, this data mining of patient information is very profitable for big companies.

A decision in this case is expected to come soon and have big implications for the pharmaceutical industry.

Interesting story.... In my opinion, I think that they should not sell our data to the big companies without the patient authorization. Perhaps that a solution would be to inform the patients that the companies want to do some data mining with their data.. What do you guys think about this?
