KDIR 2013 Call for papers
Date: February 27, 2013 01:15PM

The International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Information Retrieval (KDIR 2013 - http://www.kdir.ic3k.org/) has an open call for papers, whose deadline is scheduled for March 12, 2013.
We hope you can participate in this conference by submitting a paper reflecting your current research.

KDIR 2013 will be held in Vilamoura, Portugal, September 19 - 22, 2013.

The conference will be sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) and held in cooperation with the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and ACM SIGMIS - ACM Special Interest Group on Management Information Systems. INSTICC is Member of the Foundation for Intelligent Physical Agents (FIPA), Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC) and Object Management Group (OMG).

Knowledge Discovery is an interdisciplinary area focusing upon methodologies for identifying valid, novel, potentially useful and meaningful patterns from data, often based on underlying large data sets. A major aspect of Knowledge Discovery is data mining, i.e. applying data analysis and discovery algorithms that produce a particular enumeration of patterns (or models) over the data. Knowledge Discovery also includes the evaluation of patterns and identification of which add to knowledge.
Information retrieval (IR) is concerned with gathering relevant information from unstructured and semantically fuzzy data in texts and other media, searching for information within documents and for metadata about documents, as well as searching relational databases and the Web. Automation of information retrieval enables the reduction of what has been called "information overload".
Information retrieval can be combined with knowledge discovery to create software tools that empower users of decision support systems to better understand and use the knowledge underlying large data sets.

We would like to highlight the presence of the following keynote speaker:
Alan Eardley, Staffordshire University, United Kingdom
David Aveiro, University of Madeira, Portugal
(list not yet complete)

KDIR is interested in promoting high quality research as it can be confirmed by last year acceptance rates, where from 115 submissions, 16% were accepted as full papers. Additionally, 28% were presented as short papers and 17% as posters.

Submitted papers will be subject to a double-blind review process. All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, under an ISBN reference, on paper and on CD-ROM support.
A short list of presented papers will be selected so that revised and extended versions of these papers will be published by Springer-Verlag in a CCIS Series book.

The proceedings will be submitted for indexation by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI), INSPEC, DBLP and EI (Elsevier Index).
All papers presented at the conference venue will be available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library (http://www.scitepress.org/DigitalLibrary/). SCITEPRESS is member of CrossRef (http://www.crossref.org/).

Best paper awards will be distributed during the conference closing session. Please check the website for further information (http://www.kdir.ic3k.org/BestPaperAward.aspx).

Workshops, Special Sessions, Tutorials as well as Demonstrations dedicated to other technical/scientific topics are also envisaged: companies interested in presenting their products/methodologies or researchers interested in holding a tutorial are invited to contact the conference secretariat. Workshop chairs and Special Session chairs will benefit from logistics support and other types of support, including secretariat and financial support, to facilitate the development of a valid idea.

KDIR 2013 is co-located with two related conferences in a joint conference (IC3K - http://www.ic3k.org/) format, namely:
- Knowledge Engineering and Ontology Development (http://www.keod.ic3k.org/)
- Knowledge Management and Information Sharing (http://www.kmis.ic3k.org/)
Registration to one conference allows free access to all conferences.

Please check further details at the KDIR conference website (http://www.kdir.ic3k.org/).
Should you have any question please don't hesitate contacting me.
